What Causes Nausea, Dizziness And Fatigue?

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Nov 2016
Question: Well, I'm a teacher. I'm 49 years old and weigh about 240, 5'8". My family has a history of diabetes - mom, grandma, aunt, brother, and an uncle. I've been diagnosed with hypothyroidism with Hashimoto's Disease and Fibromyalgia. My symptoms are melancholy mood (weepy, crying for no reason), bouts of dizziness throughout the day when walking, constant mild nausea, heart beat speeds up randomly once or twice a week, and fatigue. Also, I've noticed either my foot or hand will tingle like the circulation has be constricted.

I have been diagnosed with Pre-diabetes 2 years ago with an A1C of 61. I was tested again 1 1/2 years ago with an A1C of 59. A week and a half ago, I requested my PCM do a thyroid and A1C test on me because I haven't been feeling well. Since I go to an air force base and they're undermanned, I have not heard from the nurse about my request.

Brief Answer:
These symptoms can occur due to depression.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for asking from Healthcaremagic.com, I am Dr. Seikhoo Bishnoi, MD Psychiatry.

I can understand your concern. The symptoms like bad mood, crying spells, dizziness throughout the day, nauseating feeling, fatigue etc could be occurring due to some mood disturbance. Fibromylagia might be aggravating this mood disturbance. The rapid random exacerbation of heart beat could be occurring due to anxiety but needed evaluation.

If possible consult a physician first and get your ECG done. ECG will rule out any cardiac cause of sudden palpitations. Once that comes normal get your repeat HbA1c levels checked. If that rules out diabetes then most likely reason for your symptoms is depression.

Persistent crying spells, melancholic mood, dizziness, fatigue along with anxiety symptoms are commonly seen in depression. Ask for appointment of a psychiatrist. Hormonal changes could be the other reasons for mood swings but if your menstrual cycle is regular then no need to worry for that.

In both cases treatment with antidepressants helps to correct the symptoms. Medicines like SNRIs like Venlafaxine or Desvenlafaxine etc can be used. These drugs will correct the depressed mood and you will definitely feel better. So don't delay and ask for appointment of a psychiatrist if possible.

Thanks, Take care
