default
Posted on Tue, 9 Feb 2016
Question: I have severe night time nausea. I wake up after 3 or 4 hours of sleep very nauseated. I have to eat something and a banana and oatmeal works best. It gets better once I get up and move around. Have tried Prilosec etc and nothing works.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of GERD is more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of GERD is more.
GERD is due laxity of gastroesophageal sphincter. Because of this the acid of the stomach tends to come up in the esophagus and cause the symptoms of nausea especially in lying down position.
Prilosec is pantoprazole. It is proton pump inhibitor. Combination of pantoprazole and prokinetic drugs (levosulperide or domperidone) is good as compare to plain pantoprazole.
Along with drugs do following things.
1. Avoid stress and tension.
2. Avoid hot and spicy food. Avoid junk food. Avoid large meals, instead take frequent small meals.
3. Keep 2 - 3 pillows under head in the bed to prevent reflux.
4. Go for walking after meals.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Have you ever undergone upper GI scopy?
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

I can get the Prilosec, but the the levosulperide and the domperidone are not even heard of in the United States. My druggist could not even find them when he looked them up! He did not know what a prokinetic drug was! Can you suggest something that I can get here?

Brief Answer:
Levosulpiride and domperidone are universal drugs.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Levosulpiride and domperidone are universal drugs. I don't believe that these drugs are not available in US.
These are very well known and time tested drugs.
Combination with pantoprazole is easily available.
You can search online by yourself about pantoprazole, domperidone and pantoprazole, levosulpiride combination. You will definitely get the brand name for sure.
Even pantoprazole alone is sufficient if you are following other steps suggested by me.
So please let me know
1. Do you have stressful life?
2. Do you have habits of smoking and alcohol?
3. Do you eat hot, spicy food or large meals?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
