Thanks for writing in HCM. I had gone through your query and understand your concern.
I need further information regarding nipple discharge for your 27 yrs old son (post Op) 1.) colour of the fluid discharge from nipple 2.)associated with any smell or not 3.) swelling +/-area of nipple discharge 4.) any complaints of fever.
First possibility is seroma formation ,no need to get worried as is subside spontaneously in course of time.
second possibility is abscess ,if any foul smelling discharge or presence of fever with painful swelling is highly suggestive of abscess. But if you treating with appropriate antibiotic no need to get worried .In your son case and from history it is highly suggestive of seroma only, its post operative complication of surgery associated with nipple discharge . my advise is to wait and watch, if your 27 yr old son is not suffering from above mentioned symptoms.
I would be glad to provide answers to any further queries.
Thanks for using HMC Have a good day!

The discharge was initially from both sides when rash first occurred. Now it is just the right side. It is a much smaller amount from initial discharge - Clear liquid. No foul odor, painful swelling (there is a small amount of swelling, but not painful). No fever.
So, it is my understanding that this is a common complication and should subside in time? We actually traveled out of state to have this done, so we can't just jump in the car and have someone look at it. :)
I appreciate your timely answer to my question.
Thanks again, XXXXXXX

Thanks for your detailed history.
From your history its is clear and its highly suggestive of seroma (post op complication) . and as you mentioned the discharge completely ceases on left side with same history as right side ,nipple discharge from right will also subside .My advise is to continue with your antibiotic cream for 2 weeks as per your physician advise.
To consult your physician preferably plastic surgeon only if the symptoms persists i.e persistent discharge from left nipple or increase in size of swelling .
I would be glad to provide answers to any further queries.
Wishing your son a speedy recovery,
