What Causes Noises From Stomach?

Posted on Tue, 27 May 2014
Question: Hi , I 'm XXXXXXX I will be seeing a GI Doc in the next couple of weeks. The main question now appears to be the war going on in my stomach about 24 hours a day. Major noises all the time and this has not been addressed by the GI Doc's that I have seen. I am on Dexilant 60mg once a day. There is no pain, just burping and stomach noise all the time. Have had upper and lower GI and do have a hiatal hernia also. It has appeared or made itself known in the last year or so. Naturally, I get no sleep or must sleep upright. Must get a referral from Primary Care before I can see another specialist. The burping and noise is just not normal and never had that problem before. Have altered diet greatly, it does help. Any great suggestions or questions to ask/answer would be greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Laparoscopic surgery should be considered.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

It seems that your symptoms are a part of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). There is not pain, because you take PPIs (proton pump inhibitors which is Dexilant). As you have hiatal hernia, this may be the main source of all your symptoms.
And as medicines seems to not give complete relief, I suggest you to consult a surgeon and consider laparoscpic surgery to fix hiatal hernia (it is called Nissens fundoplication).
Before this procedure, GI consult is a good choice. 24 hours esophageal pH monitoring should be done before the decision about the surgery will be done.

Please note that this kind of surgery can give complete relief if other solutions have failed.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Thanks for the reply Dr. Stanko.

Would this be by an ENT Doc or the GI Doc or someone with your background?

Thanks in advance,

Detailed Answer:
GI (gastroenterologist) would be the best choice. He should decide either to do mentioned test or to consult surgeon.
