What Causes Nose Blocks While Treating Nose Bleeds?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Dec 2015
Question: On Saturday I had my nose cauterize do, yesterday I went back to the emergency to have the packing removed. By the time I got home the bleeding had started again. I put ploysporin in my nose as directed and then put a cotton swab at the base of my nose. After a few hours my nose became totally blocked. I am assuming the blood clotted, but I cannot breathe and I was told not to blow my nose. I phoned telehealth XXXXXXX and they told me to see my family doctor or go to a walk in clinic. My family doctor had gone for the day and she is not in the office today. I went to a walk in clinic and they told me to see my family doctor. Is this normal for the nose to become totally blocked. Should I go back to the emergency department where i had it cauterize do. I am on blood thinners.

Brief Answer:
Kindly visit a doctor for removal of the clot

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam,
Thank you for writing to us at health care magic. This is Dr.Riyanka Chail glad to be answering your query.

Yes it is normal to have nose blocks while being treated for recurrent nose bleeds.
However, it is advisable kindly go to the Emergency room as the doctors there shall apply normal saline nasal sprays to moisten the blood clot and shall carefully remove the clot to prevent successive bleeds.

Since you are on blood thinners , this may be the cause for recurrent bleeds.
Also a regular monitoring of you Blood Pressure on a daily basis is essential to rule out hypertension as the cause of bleeding.

I would like to add that it is advisable to also consult your doctor regarding nose bleeds and the fact that you are on blood thinners because in future there should not be any incidences of neurological haemorrhagic complications due to this.

Hope this answered your query.
