Question: Hi I need to ask a neurological question.

I was on triple therapy for Hpylori. Which included omprezole, metrodonzale and amoxycillin. On the last day of the course I developed a slight tingling creep crawling sensation on the left said of my face. From my mouth chin to left temple. My head also feels slightly numb and a pain. I also have slight hand pain and pain in my left arm. I had a cold last week too. When I bend my head I feel the left side of my face is heavy. Upon touch I feel the tingle more. But otherwise not as much. Its been 2 weeks since I have been off the medication.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely due to medications

Detailed Answer:
Although metronidazole is known to cause neuropathies as a side effect they are primarily seen in the limbs not in the face and certainly not on only one side. Medications which cause neuropathies do not do so on only one side of the body. The fact that you have symptoms of such a one sided nature involving the head, face, neck, and hand suggests the brain as the possible origin of these problems. I don't know if the viral illness you speak of could possibly have anything to do with your symptoms but I think it's a possibility.

I don't know if the pain you refer is potentially interpretable as a bad headache which you are not making much of in which case the rest of your symptoms together with possible headache then, could constitute something called hemicrania continua or at the very least chronic headache which could be a complicated migraine due to your symptoms in your hand as well.

You may wish to seek out a neurologist who will order an imaging study such as an MRI possibly with contrast just to see architecturally what resides in the noggin. if you believe your symptoms are improving then, chances this will be self limited and it will resolve on its own over time.

If this explanation has proven useful then, I would appreciate some brief written feedback as well as a star rating.

it would also be a great favor to me if you would consider closing the query you have no further questions or comments on this thread. that will indicate to the system that we are ready to process, archive, and make ready this conversation for future use as necessary.

if you would like to write to me with future questions directly and I hope you do consider that in other cases where you may have some concerns regarding this or any other condition please write to me at:

Brief Answer:
Nothing serious from your description

Detailed Answer:
Good morning. Thank you for your f/u question.

As I had indicated in my first message to you on this question if your concern of your symptoms persists then, perhaps an imaging study would be of value in order to be sure nothing could be causing them. Typically the types of symptoms you are referring such as heaviness of the head, tingling sensations over partial areas of the head and face and inclusion of the hand on the same side are due to feelings of depression or anxiety if they are not due to organic causes. I've also read your questions to colleagues and see that these are not exactly brand new symptoms.

The fact, they have not progressed nor gotten better suggests to me that it is unlikely to be something on the order of a stroke, brain bleed, tumor, or anything stroke like. But again, that's the utility of getting the imaging study such as the CT or MRI of the brain which only a doctor can order (at least in the U.S.).

I do hope you find resolution of your symptoms but if you are still interested in conversing about them or if after you've seen a specialist there are things that need clarification please consider addressing your concerns to me at:

it would also be a great favor to me if you would consider CLOSING THE QUERY you have no further questions or comments on this thread. That will indicate to the system that we are ready to process, archive, and make ready this conversation for future use as necessary.

This query required 45 min. of physician specific time in reviewing, researching, and documenting in final draft form for envoy.
