home. She is generally healthy and has had no history of heart problems or kidney problems. About 10 days ago she found out her sister in Iowa passed, and become very upset. Soon afterword she experienced 8 symptons, all manifested in a short period of time. Her symptons are: 1. numbness and tingling in her left arm, could not even hold a fork to cut meat. 2. involuntary head tick (bobbing a little, up sideways etc) 3. blurred vision 4. confusion 5. clenching her eyes closed while talking to me as if having a dizzy spell. 6. nausea 7. joint pain 8. tired and weak.

My first differential diagnosis for her current condition is grief reaction. Almost all symptoms mentioned over here can be explained by the severe grief reaction. I must acknowledge that some of the elderly individuals exhibit very different set of stress symptoms and it is possible that getting news about her sister lead to sudden onset of all these problems.
The second possibility is depression but it is too early to diagnose as most individuals slowly recover from grief reaction and do not lead to development of clinical depression.
