What Causes Numbness In Right Leg And Pain In Left Arm After Bypass Surgery?
My father had a bypass surgery 3 months back on 4th February. He is 61 years of age and diabetic. After the surgery mostly all the problems are removed slowly slowly but some are left yet. Can you please suggest why are they still happening after the surgery?
The problems still faced are:
1) Sometime he get a feeling of very slight water in the right jaw (he used to have this prior to the surgery but firstly it is in less quantity than before and at that time it was accompanied with BURP and some swollen feeling in the wrist for a minute or so.)
2) He is having pain in the left arm during lifting hand above head like while bathing, seems a muscular pain and he feels relieved after applying MOOV or Volini.
3) There is a numbness feeling in the right leg from which 2 veins were removed.
4) While taking a deep breathe at times he feels slight stiffness like something getting stretched in the left side of chest.
Please guide that are these side effects of surgery or anything to worry about and how much time will they take to recover.
All problems are commonly faced after bypass surgery and are temporary
Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
All the problems you describe are known to occur after bypass surgery .
1) The water in the mouth and burps are because of acid reflux from the stomach , your father already must have had some component of it and the Medicine and stress of bypass surgery must have increased it . I recommend you to take Tab Pantocid DSR twice a day for sometime instead of tab pantocid as it will decrease the reflux..
2) During surgery when they harvest the inside artery around left arm and the vein in the legs , surrounding small nerve twigs are cut , this will result in either numbness or sharp shooting pain at different times . They generally resolve by 3 months post surgery as the nerve twigs self heal, in some they may persist a little longer .
3 ) Because it's open heart surgery they cut through the bone and later fix it , so deep breaths may stretch the stitch they have taken causing the stiffness life feeling . Again that is transient and will go away with time . Physiotherapy may help in this case .
Hoping I could help.
Do rate for others reference.
Let me know if any clarification needed.
