What Causes Numbness In The Area Around Knees?
My problem recently has been that I feel a slight numbness in the area around my knees (such as you would feel if you were really cold). I also have been feeling a buzz or vibration going through my body mostly during or after light exercise. The numbness went away after a week or two and the vibration mostly is gone except for during brisk walks, etc. The vibration usually doesn't bother me but made my knees go weak the other day while taking a walk with my kids.
I have taken flagyl approx 3-4 times in past 3 years.
Possibility of Osteoarthritis or meniscal tear of knee.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking Health care magic forum.
I have gone through your query. Your problem of vibration sensation and numbness on knee is most likely due to osteoarthritis or meniscal tears.(Meniscus (Menisci-plural) are rubber like pads which are placed in between knee joints.
There are two menisci in each knee.It acts as shock absorbers. It can get tear during activities like exercises, for eg:when you make a sudden turn of knee). An examination with orthopedician gives clue for that and a X ray followed by MRI might be required to confirm that if needed.
If osteoarthritis in initial stages can be managed well conservatively.NSAID group drugs local capsaicin application and quadriceps muscle strenthening exercises will help in such case. You should also get enough calcium.Your vitamin D level should be checked. If low then calcium and vit D3 supplements should be taken.
In case of meniscal injury also you may get such symptoms.Manoeuvres by orthopedician will give clue for that and MRI confirms it.In such case if injury is worse then an arthroscopic correction will be needed.Otherwise elastic bandaging ,quadriceps strengthening exercises and short term NSAID drugs will help you.
Hope this may help you.Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks
