Brief Answer:
Blood tests to evaluate diabetes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

If there is history of diabetes in your wife's family, a check up is necessary to understand better your wife's condition.

Numbness of hands may indicate peripheral neuropathy, if there is uncontrolled diabetes for a long time.

Tiredness and sleepy also may be related to glucose levels in blood.

Glucose levels in blood and glucosated hemoglobin are necessary to be done.

If diabetes is excluded after such tests, nerves compression ( carpal tunnel syndrome for example ) should be considered.

Discuss with your wife's primary care Doctor about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Greetings.
