What Causes Occasional Pain In Shoulders And Arms?

default
Posted on Wed, 3 Jun 2015
Question: Hi, I'm 34 and female. 2 months ago I had a fbc and was normal apart from my ESR which was raised at 25 and now (2 months later) is 29. My CRP is normal on both occasions on 4. I have occasional aches in my upper body bones (shoulders, arms, elbows and wrists and fingers) which seem to go after a few minutes??? What could be the reason for one test to increase and the other one to be normal? And what could be the aches in my bones? I otherwise feel ok. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Nothing significant.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem ESR is a very non specific marker plus its not that much elevated that you should worry about when other markers are fine. I would order for rheumatoid factor test to rule out arthritis as the cause of joint stiffness and pain.

CRP is an acute phase reactant if its normal it shows there is no inflammation or infection in body at present.

Let me know if you have any doubts.

I have tested negative for rheumatoid.

I have a lot going on in my life right now with 2 children and a baby, moving house etc and feel I'm beginning to focus all my energy on this which is not fair.

Sometimes I feel my skin hurts when touched. My physio says my back muscles are all tense too. Would just like some ideas on what this could all be. Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
Follows.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Since all your tests are normal I would advise you to get a metabolic profile done specially calcium levels , vitamin D levels and Serum TSH as their deficiencies can lead to all such complaints . Possibility of arthritis is low .

If all this is negative the possibility of having fibromyalgia is also there but for that examination is also important.
