What Causes Orange Stools While Having Crohn's Disease?

default
Posted on Tue, 6 Jun 2017
Question: Hi, I have crohns disease and have recently developed extremely sore thighs with tingling and numbness in my calves and a dull ache in my armpits and neck.
I have recently had a chest ct and a Doppler ultrasound on my right leg which were both clear for DVT but showed my thyroid is constricting my trachea slightly and has grown down into my chest. Since then the pain in my legs has intensified and is now on the outside of both thighs as well as intermittently on the inside too. I can't sleep on my side because the pressure on my thighs is too painful.
I have also had a non productive cough for the last 8 weeks.
I'm awaiting more blood results but I feel miserable. A new symptom is lower abdo pain with throbbing and bright yellow/ orange faeces.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound should be done to rule out liver problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic to ask you query.

I am a Gastroenterologist and have gone through your details.

As per your query.

Orange stool can be caused by a number of problems:
Color of stool is given by bile which is secreted by liver and is broken down in intestines. If your bowel movement is too fast, and your feces are not processed by bile during your digestion. The color of stool will be very different origional.
Second possibilty is that liver is not producing enough bile hence color of feces is orange or the bile ducts that take it from the liver to the digestive system are suffering from an inflammation or are otherwise blocked causing colangitis. foods rich in beta-carotene, like carrots, squash, sweet potato, pumpkin, XXXXXXX cilantro, turnip.

Since the problem has been going on for so long, I would suggest seeing your GP about it, and possibly have a stool sample examined for bile .
An ultrasound abdomen should also be done to see if there is any problem with liver.

Heaviness and tingling in legs can also be there because of compression of nerve in spinal cord.So along with test for reynuds i would suggest you to go for MRI lumbosacral spine also.
Thorough investigation should be done.
Hope you find it helpful.

Thanks
