Brief Answer:
Can be candida

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

The outer vaginal itching can be from many causes. But the main cause can be fungal infection (candida, etc). It is very common and I do not consider it as a disease.

It mostly starts due to taking antibiotics or some stressful event in life. These factors lower the immunity for sometime and cause the overgrowth of fungi. Now fingi are part of normal flora. So we aim to reduce them and not eliminate them completely.

I would request you to get examined by a gynecologist. She may also ask for vaginal smears and even pap smear to confirm the diagnosis. Pap smear should be done yearly in sexually active females.

Now you can try miconazole cream/ointment or clotrimazole ointment to apply over the itchy skin. It is to be applied only on affected area and on as needed basis.

Since antibiotics also lower gut immunity, I would advise that you drink clean drinking water.

Hope it answers your query. If you still have more questions you can post a followup or I can get a call arranged with you.

Take care

Dr Vaishalee
