What Causes Pain And Itchiness On Skin After Shingles?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: I have severe lumbar arthritis with bulging discs that is being treated with pain meds and steroid shots when neccessary
I now have a back problem that I "think" may be nerve oriented. I had a Thoracic MRI that showed no problematic areas. But my thoracic back hurts daily with symptoms of: diffuse sharp pain that gradually settles to one or two areas. I feel muscle spasms and hot diffuse pain like when I had Shingles. My back also itches at times and sometimes areas of my back are numb. Pain med helps some, but I find more relief just lying flat in bed for at least an hour with maybe a pillow under my head to see around the room. Almost daily, the pain is excruciating.

Brief Answer:
A possible neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your query.
It is quite common to get pain and itching after shingles.
Specially in the same area as the shingles.
It may have nothing to do with your back pain.
Yes, pain killers help.
But they will not subside it completely.
What you need is a prescription of carbamazepine.
Thats the best medicine for shingle related pain,
I suggest that to you.
Best of luck.
