Question: I worked as an election judge on Tuesday - sitting more than standing. In theafternoon I had intermittent pain in my leg between my knee and hip. The pain didn't last long, but was rather severe. I had the pain Tuesday during the night and off and on Wednesday. I haven't any pain since Wednesday night. I have lumpy varicose veins in this leg. I concerned that it could be a blood clot.
Brief Answer:

Hi XXXXXXX E XXXXXXX thanks for using HCM.
I went through the query and understood your concern.
Sitting for prolonged period with pressure on blood vessels may cause blood to clot. Usually the pain will be very severe with restriction of movements and will be associated with swelling in legs.So with your clinical presentation we can't rule out deep vein thrombosis (cloting). For confirming kindly get done dopler ultrasound scan which will diagnose if any clot is present for now.
Usually if the clot size is minimal due to our body responce the clot will be dissolved and if the size is more then it can affect the circulation.
The positive signs for clot are severe pain in any particular movement or if punching the muscle affected.
Some time varicose vein may develop due to clot (very rare) or also due to incompetence of the valves. So prescence of varicose veins cannot help in conforming clot.
If you are on blood thinner then kindly continue the same along with compression bandage on the varicose veins. Get done dopler scan once to check for any clot or incompetence of any valves.
I hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask if any further queries and I will be glad to answer them.
Wish you good health and faster recovery.
