Question: I recently had lumbar back surgery and I have some swelling in my calf and ankles. is this normal?

Calf and ankle swelling is not normal after lumbar spine surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
In my opinion swelling in calf and ankles after Lumbar Spine Surgery is not normal unless you have additional problems like hypertension,kidney diseases.
I would suggest repeat consultation with operating surgeon. In the meantime use compression stockings.
