What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Leg Post Arthroscopy?

Question: Hello, my partner just undergone arthroscopy ( Friday). The leg that was operated on is swollen and he has been in pain ( as expected), but he says that it hurt at the back of his knee rather than top or front part. He feels feverish,but doers not seem to have fever and his appetite dropped. Could he be experiencing symptoms of DVT, how could we tell, an dcan we wait till tomorrow morning to see a Gp. He is 62 and has a hx of high blood pressure controlled by Coversyl.

Hello,
I have studied your case. Pain at back of knee is un likely due to DVT. I think that this pain is due to surgery only. But before I advised you any thing I would like to know little detail of the illness.
1.Why this surgery was done ?
2. Is the patient walking after surgery ?
3. Can you send me image of his leg ?

He had been experiencing pain in his knee and difficulties with walking, had an M R I done which showed some damage to the knee structure, he has been walking before and after the surgery, rather limited after due to pain. We have a f/u visit with a specialist on Thursday ,

Should he try to walk as much as possible or rest as much as possible post surgery?

He is allowed to walk for toilet and once or twice daily

Hello,
Thanks for replying. I think he was most probably operated for knee for meniscectomy. Though he is allowed to walk but he should walk only bare minimum. After first dressing he can increase his mobility. He should avoid too much bending of knee or squatting. But do not worry this is not DVT. You can keep a pillow below his knee and loose dressing a little. It will make him little better. He can take Tramadol tablet for pain.
