Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I would explain that your symptoms could be related to different possible disorders :
- heart failure
- kidney dysfunction
- or chronic venous insufficiency of the lower limbs.
At home, I would recommend reducing salt and fluid intake and avoid standing up position. Having some rest with your legs raised will help. Wearing compressive socks would also help.
But, considering the above mentioned possible causes, I would recommend consulting with your doctor for a physical exam and some tests in order to find out the cause of your symptoms:
- a chest X ray study
- a resting ECG and cardiac ultrasound
- NT-pro BNP levels for heart failure
- kidney and liver function tests
- blood electrolytes
- a Doppler ultrasound of the lower limb vessels to investigate for chronic venous insufficiency.
Taking a diuretic like furosemide would help relive the swollen legs.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
