What Causes Pain And Swelling On Leg After Meniscus Surgery?

I had meniscus surgery May 15th. I was off my feet for about 14 days. I am a teacher so I had to return to work. I've been in therapy since that time. I am in such pain today and have been from time to time since that time. Today I was only on my feet for about 3 hours and now I can hardly walk because of the severe pain in all my muscles in the leg. The swelling has been to the point that most time when I go to therapy, they can only ice it and a minimal amount of exercise. I'm afraid! What's going on with my leg?
Can be due to effusion.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
If the swelling and pain is persistent even after a rest of 3 weeks after the surgery then it needs to be investigated. There can be a mild joint effusion or a persistent inflammation in the area. This needs a direct examination and investigations like MRI scan to detect the extent of inflammation that you are having. Rest and a hot fomentation will help in reducing the swelling. You can use a knee brace for proper support to the knee during the day.
Do consult your orthopedician for stronger anti inflammatory medicines.
I hope this answers your query.
