What Causes Pain And Tenderness In The Lower Left Abdomen?

Question: I have pain/tenderness in my lower left abdomen just above the groin area. It started on Sunday (2 days ago). I am a 62 year old male and quite active--walk 5 miles a day and work out on elliptical and some weights at least 3 times a week. I am inclined to wait it out for the rest of the week to see if it goes away but obviously don't want to miss something serious. I thought it might be a hernia issue, though I had both sides repaired about 25 years ago and in that case the pain was substantially lower down on my abdomen and there was a minor protrusion.
Brief Answer:
can monitor if not severe
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
If the pain is not severe and there are no associated symptoms (no urinary symptoms such as frequency, burning, incontinence, change in color or odor- bladder is located just above the groin or any other concerning symptoms) then you can monitor.
It is possible, though not likely since they were repaired, that it may be related to the hernia. Hernia repair can fail and the hernia can recur
Muscular or soft tissue injury to overlying areas can also result in pain.
You should rest as you mentioned but if there is any worsening or additional symptoms then you should be seen.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
