What Causes Pain Around The Right Eye And Severe Fatigue?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jun 2017
Question: Hi - Two days ago, a dull pain began under & around my right eye - some intermittent very light spasm sensation occured but no vision interruption. Tenderness to the touch above, right and cheekbone under eye. I have 1 swollen (my right side) swollen gland in my neck that began growing and became more painful in the last 36 hours. A spot on my upper right lip swelled also similar to a "cold sore" appearing yesterday morning. I am not experiencing other symptoms .. a bit less energetic, some tingling/itching sensation on my head/scalp overnight. I am a very healthy, health conscious & physically fit 130lb, 5'5", 53 yr old woman with only 2 existing health issues that I manage with 1 script (NatureThroid 32mg daily) and a very well-balanced diet. Wondering if this indicates Viral ... how can I treat at home? Or how can I figure out if I need to see a doctor? I have a 40 mile Mtn Bike Race to ride on Saturday XXXXXXX 10th and want to be certain I pose no self-risk by pushing through this.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to a viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. It is indeed possible that you have a viral infection. This could have led your body to be in stress and could have led to an electrolyte imbalance. The dull pain and the spasm could be due to the resultant fatigue of the muscles and taking some juicy fruits like citrus fruits, and bananas should provide relief.

The feeling of being less energetic could be similarly explained. In any case, viral infections are self limiting and irrespective of treatment it usually takes 5-7 days to resolve. Unless anything untoward comes up I do not think that you would need to visit a doctor. You would however, need to visit a doctor in case the condition lasts for more than 7 days.

However, I do not think that the 40 mile mountain bike race at this stage would be a very good idea. Definitely you pose self risk. Not sure if it is worth it.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
