Question: I have a pain at my neck and shoulder.. from last couple of weeks its severe.. Could you please suggest what are the test I have to take for detail diagnosis
Brief Answer:
How long has the problem affected you?
Detailed Answer:
Hi, Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. I need a bit more information about the neck and shoulder pain.
Can you describe the pain? Burning? Shock like? Dull?
How long has it bothered you?
What makes it worse?
Does anything make it better?
Did the pain start after an injury?
Does it hurt to turn your head?
Have you noticed any weakness in your arms or hands or fingers?
Do you have any medical issues?
Do you take any regular medications?
The first test we can use to rule in or out problems is a detailed physical exam by a spine surgeon. After that X-rays of the neck in 3 views (AP, Lateral and Oblique) with flexion and extension views are required.
If these two tests (exam and the x-ray) show something significant then you will need an MRI of the c-spine.
First before we go any further though, try and answer these questions and we can decide if you really need to be seen by a spine surgeon or someone else.
I hope this helps. Looking forward to your reply.

Pain is like shock like feeling when I lift my head backwards !
I started feeling this from past 6 to 8 months !
long drive, long work in computer, sitting in unsupported position makes it worse !
Nothing that I noticed as if makes better.. sometimes because of neck pain even my head start ache !
I had dislocated shoulder arm joint but nothing on neck !
I haven't noticed any weakness in arms !
No medical issues and I am taking medication for hair fall from Dr Batras
Brief Answer:
You need an MRI of your neck.
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thanks for following up. From the symptoms and signs that you have described here, it sounds like you might have a pinched nerve in your neck. That is not a life threatening issue ny no means, but it should not be ignored. So I would suggest that you get an MRI of your Cervical Spine and Spinal Cord (Non Contrast). You family doctor can give you a prescription for the same.
Once that is done, upload it here and we can go over the findings. If a nerve is pinched and it looks like surgery can fix it, we will deal with that. If there is a pinch bit suregery CANNOT deal with it... then we have even more options. So don't worry we will manage this eventually.
I Hope this helps. Feel free to follow up.
