What Causes Pain At The Base Of The Neck?

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Jun 2016
Question: I have a bit of a pain at the base on my neck in the rear portion. This is not excruciating, however it has been there for sometime.
I also have a similar pain in my right wrist. It only pains when I flex my hand to the extreme and it stretches the wrist muscles.
I would like to know how I can resolve this.

Brief Answer:
Cervical spondylosis, muscle strain

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome.
I have gone through your query and do understand your concern.

There are two possibilities that you can discuss with your local doctor.
One is cervical spondylosis, it can be diagnosed by x-ray neck and more details can be obtained by CT scan.
Other possibility is muscle strain.
You should take NSAID like aceclofenac with muscle relaxants like chlorzoxazone/ tizanidine twice daily for 3-5 days based on the responce. You can ask your local doctor for prescription of this agent. Along with this hot compression and analgesic gel or spray will be beneficial. This will help you.

Regarding the wrist pain, it is common and can occur in any one who tries to flex wrist at extreme extent.
Hope this helps. I'll be glad to address your further queries.
Take care.
