What Causes Pain At The Sacrococcygeal Joint?

default
Posted on Thu, 20 Oct 2016
Question: I have been experiencing pain when I am sitting down near the top of the buttocks crack. it feels like it is about an inch or so above the anus and the pain feels like it is about an inch or so below the surface and hurts when I sit down or sit on the edge of the bed when I go to lay down. I travel a lot for work and it is very uncomfortable when I am sitting on an airplane. I though it was perhaps just a muscle issue or something but it is not going away.

Brief Answer:
Coccydynia. Needs medication, lifestyle modification

Detailed Answer:
Ho there.

Thanks for the query.

It appears that you have Coccydynia. It is pain at the sacrococcygeal joint due to various reasons like trauma, constipation, overweight or obese BMI, arthritis, fracture etc.

Avoid sitting on hard surface. Use a donut cushion. Avoid sitting for more than half an hour at a stretch. Get up, walk around and extend your back.

Perform Sitz bath with XXXXXXX warm water with added salt to relieve oedema and pain, twice a day.

Eat fibre rich food like fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables, Nuts, ispaghol husk if constipated. Basically you need to prevent constipation, as this can aggravate Coccydynia.

Drink 2-3 litres of water daily. Get regular exercise by brisk walking for 45 minutes daily.

Take Tablet Ibuprofen 400mg twice a day for 5 days after meals and Tablet Ranitidine 150mg twice a day for 5 days before meals.

Try this remedy for 2 weeks and follow up with me. We can decide on further treatment accordingly.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to you answer your follow up queries.
