What Causes Pain Between Ear And Jaw And The Left Side Of Face Post Tooth Extraction?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: I was told by the doctor that I had fluid in my left ear and I also mention that I had an infection on one of my lower left teeth that needed to be pulled out. He prescribed me Augmentin 875mgs and said it should help with both infections. Two days later I had the infected tooth pulled out. I've been in a lot of pain between my ear and jaw and the left side of my face hurts and my left lymph node under my jaw is very sore and hurts. I've been on the antibiotic now for 7 days and I've noticed after taking the antibiotic, the front of my neck on the side of my XXXXXXX apple hurts and my XXXXXXX apple becomes sore to the touch. Sometimes the pain goes down in between my clavicle bone area. It just started a few days ago. I have a two days left of the antibiotic left. The antibiotic has stomach a mess, my back is sore and I've very tired since on the antibiotic. my back is also sore, I sometimes get flushed and itch a little and have been very tired since I've been on the antibiotic. What's wrong?

Brief Answer:
Referred pain

Detailed Answer:
Hello, XXXXXX ,

This is Dr. Priyanka tiwari answering your query,

Read your query , understand your concern as you have undergone extraction the pain can be due to inflamation present around the extraction site with referred pain into ear and throat , and as ear and throat shares common innervation .
This is one of the common problem after extraction of tooth. As you have mentioned about lymph node is sore and hurts when there is any infection and inflamation the lymph node enlarged and sore so dont worry for this I will suggest you to take potent anti -inflammatory (analgesic) medicine like Diclofenac sodium or Ibugesic plus and antibiotic like Amoxicillin clavulanic acid combination by consulting with your local doctor.
Follow post extraction instructions and if symptoms wont subside then you require to examine by dentist for examination of extraction socket and its treatment.

Hope I have answered your query,
If you have further query I will be happy to help.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka tiwari

I have been taking an antibiotic (Augmentin 875mgs every 12 hours) for the ear and tooth infection since 5/29/14. I also have been taking 800mgs of ibuprofen for the pain. the uncomfortable pain around my XXXXXXX apple and the surrounding area started on 5/29/14 after started the antibiotics. So its the reffered pain from the extraction and infections that's casuing my XXXXXXX apple and the area around it to feel uncomfortable and sometimes painful correct? I do suffer from Rhinitis and noticed and increase in phlegm causing me to breath it back in and swallow sometimes causing throat irritation. I know that Augmentin is sometimes given to people with severe sinus infections. Is the antibiotic causing the extra phlegm draining my rhinitis? I"m done in two more days with antibiotic and have noticed the side effects from taking this are aweful. So far I had stomach issues, back pains, flushing sensations and would sometimes itch.

Oh ok. Yes I already had an infection in the tooth as well as my ear. The tooth needed to be extracted. I went see the oral surgeon this past Monday for a follow up and it was still swollen and continue taking ibuprofen. It was the pain around the XXXXXXX Apple area that has me concerned. Thank you.
