What Causes Pain During Bowel Movement In A Child?

Question: hi dr
i have a 3 yo girl, who is constantly says she is in pain when trying to go to the toilet, she its been 6 months and we have done so many tests with no results, she goes a week or 2 at a time so she is constantly backed up.
I'm thinking it may be a psycoloical event as no medication is or has worked
she has anxiety and behaviour is up and down she is number 4 out of 4 children and we haver seen the others behave like she does
she is so clingy and her sleep is terrible

Brief Answer:
Please provide investigations and treatment history
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Before labelling the condition a psychological disorder,I would like to know the investigations done and medication history.
There can be so many causes of irregular bowel with pain abdomen one of which is irritable bowel syndrome (has psychological component). But in this age this cause or other psychological causes are much less common.
Proper investigation with some conservative treatment helps in most of the cases.
So please provide me the details so that I better able to help you out.
Regards

Brief Answer:
An evaluation by child psychologist is needed
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back
If symptoms persist even after thorough investigations(including thyroid function test, vitamin D level, calcium level, celiac screening and ultrasound abdomen)and treatment with positive family history of psychiatric disorder,I would like to get her evaluated by a child psychologist to rule out any underlying psychiatric cause.
Take care.
Wishing for your baby's good health.
