Question: I have pain in my whole stomach area only after I have been standing for awhile. Feels like my whole stomach is expanding and painful. It only stops if I go sit down. It has been ongoing for months, but only when I am standing for any length of time

Brief Answer:
Clinical evaluation, examination and investigations

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, read and understood your history and concerns.
Pain in abdomen only on standing for a while, feeling like whole stomach is expanding and painful but stops on sitting up ongoing for months is indicative of the following:
- It may be related to the spine in such a ways that the there is a compression on the spinal cord in standing position and once you sit down, the pain may stop as the change in the curvature of the spine may be negating the effects of compression.
- The possibility of intra-abdominal problems causing such rarely heard symptom complex can be due to some hernia either internal or external or some cause which may be found out on clinical evaluation, examination and investigations.

I would like to know a few points to add to my knowledge:
- Are there any associated symptoms like Nausea, vomiting, constipation or so on?
- your history says not visited any Doctor till now and medications tried says N/A.
- What is the severity of the problem?

I would advise you the following:
Good clinical evaluation and examination by a General Surgeon.
MRI of the spine if required.
CT scan of the whole abdomen.

These may give an idea as to why do you have such problems that is causing such an atypical presentation.

I hope this answer helps you to get an early diagnosis and proper treatment.

The pain and feeling of expansion get's pretty bad, but instant relief upon being able to sit down. Do not know how much worse it could get if I wasn't able to sit down. I am hardly able to cook any longer due to standing for about 10 minutes it comes on instantly.

Thanks for your feedback.
Since this is incapacitating you, it is better to get a clinical evaluation and examination by a General Surgeon and get the investigations as we have already discussed above to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.
