What Causes Pain In Arms And Trouble Breathing After A Fall?
Question: I fell up some stairs 5 days ago. I had some obvious bruising and swelling of my ankle right away but now I am experiencing a lot of pain under my left arm and it hurts when I breath in. There are no outward signs of bruising but could this just be internal bruising to my ribs? I also have pain in the front part of my shoulder above my breast. Do I need to go get x-rays or just give it a few days?
Brief Answer:
Possibly no fracture.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Jyothi BL and I will be answering your query.
Looking at the clinical history and present query, my opinion is as follows:
1. Hope your ankle swelling has reduced.
2. Yes, internal bruising would have definitely occurred due to the fall. Age is not high enough for fractures to occur with mild injury.
3. Muscular injury pain will be present, which can hurt when you breathe. However, if you can take complete deep breaths, then nothing to worry. You can wait a few days. You can take NSAID painkillers for the pain.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
