What Causes Pain In Big Toe With History Of Sesamoid Surgery?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jul 2015
Question: I ballroom dance with my husband and am 53 years old. My right big toe, underneath is really tender to step on. About 8 years ago, before dancing, I had surgery on the left sesmoid. I have probably just over worked it getting ready for a competition. Is there anything I can do to just calm down the area? Competition is in 2 1/2 weeks.

Brief Answer:
Conservative Measures and Maximum rest with limb elevation

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Big toe pain with history of sesamoid surgery and excessive use of toe muscles in ballroom dancing has made the pain predominant and old advancing age due to age related articular degeneration has made sure of its aggressiveness.

With the dance in two weeks , i would suggest to rest as much as possible, reduce the rehearsals timings and keep the limbs elevated. Take some pain killers and apply ice to the area. Keep the sole softest possible and use some shock absorbers in the shoes. There are many off-the-shelf shoe inserts — often made of cork, plastic, rubber or a gel-like substance — fit inside your shoes to help cushion shock.

Nutshell maximum rest possible and conservative management. Keeping the contact with ground easy and minimal force on the toes .

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discusison please.
