Question: I have a tender spot on the ribs just below the right breast.
I have to take warfarin now as I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism following a broken ankle. The embolism was in the bottom of the right lung.
I am anxious about this feeling. It is not quite pain
Brief Answer:
There are two possibilities
Detailed Answer:
hi XXXXXXX
Hope you are in good health.
There are two possibilities for your pain, relating and not relating to embolism.
Possibility1: The bottom of the right lung lie somewhere in the back below your right scapular blade. So taking your description, the area of pain you are having and the site of embolism do not match.
hence, the pain could be a rib pain or intercostal muscle pull, from your description.
Possibility2: If the site of embolism is just in the area where you are having pain, then it could be related to emboli. Emboli may produce infarction of the lung in the area of damage and can produce pleuritic pain.
In either case, you need not worry as you are already on warfarin which will not allow propagation of the clot.
A pain drug like tylenol or brufen (if severe) should help and you should be fine soon.
please do not forget to follow up with your doctor, as it is important.
Hope i was of some help.
