Question: I have multiple sclerosis and much pain. Much of my pain in my feet make it so hard to walk. I can't write, but much of the problem is pain in my fingers. I was diagnosed with MS after a long painful dental work. I had a spinal tap and was diagnosed with MS. My problems are due to MS, but MS isn''t a diagnosis for everything. Please help me. YYYY@YYYY .
I mostly wonder if i could have arthritis.

Brief Answer:
MS Symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. With immune mediated systemic inflammatory disease like MS , there are wide arrays of manifestations . The one in your case is spinal cord motor where pain in extremities and difficulty to walk mimics like you have some joint problem or arthritis. When actually it is just the flare up of MS.

In nutshell you just need the complete management of MS from both pharmacologically and non pharmacological methods. Steroids, plasmapheresis, Disease modifying Anti MS agents also called DMAMS like interferons, cyclophosphamide, mitoxantrone etc.
Your these spastic symptoms will be helped by Baclofen. I always suggest SSRIs like fluoxetine for depression which is widespread in MS. TCAs work like charm for primary pain like amitriptyline and nortriptyline.

Take vitamin D supplements and avoid strenuous exercises, hot meals or hot baths to prevent exacerbations called uhthoff phenomenon.

Stay in touch with your neurologist for further management.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan

You are very right. Progressive MS may also present with such symptoms. Also age related osteoarthritis is also probable and may be these symptoms might be the presentation of age related osteoarthralgia also called osteoarthritis which is very common in MS patients. Let yoru rheumatologist have some radiographs and assess the situation.

Take care XXXXXXX
