What Causes Pain In Joint And Thighs After A Dog Bite?
Question: Hi I was bitten by a dog about 5 weeks ago. I had washed the area and applied some alcohol on. After I was asked to keep it clean by using hydrogen peroxide and then apply Neosporin. The last time i saw the dog was 7 days after and it was doing pretty well. However I couldn't get the chance to see it again because the one who had the do was just keeping it for the rescue till they got a family to adopt it. The dog was fully vaccinated. However i have been feeling pain in my joint and thighs. I have no redness or itching at the site of the wound. Neither do i have a fever. Am really worried and want to know if it could be rabies related since I didn't see the dog after the 10th day.
Brief Answer:
Its not related to it
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM.
The bite is on the finger and your pain is in thigh. The rabies virus usually ascends up and not down the nerves as it has to reach the brain.
So your pain is mostly not related to it. Also as the dog was fully vaccinated so there should be nothing to worry about.
And 5 weeks has already passed without any signs of rabies, don't worry about that.
For you joint and thigh pain you can take a painkiller for a few days, if it doesn't subsides then show to a physician for a clinical examination to help reach a diagnosis.
Hope I have been helpful. If any further queries are there I would love to help.

I actually also sometimes feel this wrist joint pain at the hand that had the finger bitten and also pain in my deltoid muscle. But was wondering if that was due to driving since i usually use one hand.
Brief Answer:
its quiet possible
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If you will use only one hand for driving, then all the stress and strain will be on that hand and its joint and thus may cause pain.
So I would suggest that you use both hands and see if that eases off the pain. If the pain doesn't reduces then I would recommend that you show it to a physician for a clinical examination to help reach a diagnosis.
