What Causes Pain In Left Side Of Throat?

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Nov 2014
Question: A few months ago while I was at work I was talking to a patient when all the sudden a had a sharp pain on the left side of my throat. I just shrugged it off but I have been feeling something strange in that spot. So the other day I looked to see what it was I saw my tonsil just hanging there and now I feel like I'm getting sick and worried that I might get strep again. I usually have severely swollen throat about 10 to 15 times a year and I know that's not normal. And I don't have insurance at this time.

Brief Answer:
acute on chronic throat infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query. In my opinion, you might be having acute on chronic infection of your tonsil. Do hot saline gargling . Drink boiled water only. Avoid oily and cold items. Empirically you can take anti inflammatory medicines like paracetamol + diclofenac combination drugs twice daily for 3 to 5 days. If symptoms persists, or worsen, then I would suggest you to consult with the doctor and get treated with penicillin antibiotics. Since you have throat infection at least once a month, I would suggest you to get tonsils operated and removed. This will give you a permanent cure.you can discuss this with your doctor and get treated. Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks.
