What Causes Pain In Legs And Buttocks During Pregnancy?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Is it normal during this stage of pregnancy?
When will the doctor decides the mode of delivery? Is the current scan ascertains it(7th Month scan)?
Which side do we need to sleep now? Is it always left? Unknowingly I am sleeping on my back at night? Will this hurt my baby?
Normal finding at this stage of pregnancy.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
As pregnancy advances into the last trimester and into the 9th month, the pelvic joints begin to get lax as a preparation for labor. This gives rise to pain in the hips, pubic symphysis, difficulty is walking and tossing in bed.
The baby is comparatively bigger to the liquor quantity and so with lesser moving space, you can feel movements with an impact. The pain inside the vagina is also likely to be due to lax pubic joint. Sometimes, if the baby descends down early, pelvic congestion is experienced.
Mode of delivery is decided actually during the beginning of labor. A pelvic assessment is made to see if there are any hindrances to allowing a vaginal delivery apart from fetal and medical indications. Further decisions are made as and when needed during the course of labor. Sonogram is useful to exclude causes like abnormal presentations, placental locations and any other significant observations that may make an intervention necessary.
Usually, rest in left lateral position is preferred as this improves the blood supply to the placenta and hence to the fetus. It is not mandatory that you sleep always like this; in fact, this is not possible. Only, you should see that you can rest as much as possible in this manner. The baby is not hurt in any position.
Hope your query has been clarified. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

Colostrum is produced after delivery.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
Secretion of colostrum occurs soon after delivery. The nipples can discharge clear liquid during the later half of the third trimester, but not colostrum.
You should clean the nipples softly daily while taking bath to clear off any obstruction so that there can be free flow of milk later on.
The reason for failure to produce milk after delivery is mainly due to lack of the hormones Prolactin and Oxytocin, stress, infection, obstruction to the ducts and congestion of the breasts suppressing milk production.
Hope your query has been answered. Please get back if you need any more help. I will be glad to do so.
regards,
Shanti.V.
