What Causes Pain In Legs Radiating To Hip Region?

Question: I need some help please. It is very difficult to get to a neurologist. My appointment isnt until another month and my legs are getting worse and worse. The pain is getting unbearable and has moved up into my hips. My family physician has put me on ropinorole, [maybe spelled wrong], and it helped at first but very little now. Im afraid there is much more going on than restless leg syndrome. My leg muscles are getting so weak it is effecting my walking. BTW, i am a 64 year old male 5'10" and 160 lbs. I am in relatively good health, eat right, and still work an office job. Is there something like adult onset MD or some other disease that could be happening? What kind of tests need to be run?

Brief Answer:
Peripheral neuropathy and neuromuscular conditions should be evaluated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for posting your query here at HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Peripheral neuropathy and neuromuscular disorders should be evaluated as more probable causes of your symptoms, and these conditions need to be assessed in no time.

One other condition that may be causing your symptoms is degenerative or herniated lumbar spine disease.

Besides the neurological examination, there is need for tests such nerve conduction studies (EMG), MRI if lumbar column and blood tests about evaluating vitamins B group levels, thyroid and kidneys function, glucose levels.

Since the appointment with your Neurologist cannot be anticipated, discus with your primary care Doctor about having done above mentioned test as soon as possible.

If further rapid deterioration of your condition, you need to be evaluated at your nearest ER.

Hope you found your answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
