Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: Dear Dr.
8 days ago i felt some pain in my lower back area, at first i thought it was just a cold so i treated it with painkillers and creams. The pain kept getting worse until the 4th day i had to go to the hospital so they would check the pain. I could not stand stright anymore and i also felt some pain under my ribes. They Dr.s in the emergency room gave me some painkillers again and some medications to take before and during meals claiming its just some digesting problems. I dont trust what they say because till mow the pain is still there. They made a blood and urine test to check my kidneys but they said it was ok. I think they are not ok thou. Please need your advice.

Brief Answer:
Get an Ultrasound done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I read your problem and saw your reports. The reports are fine. I would like to know
1. Whether the pain still persists and its exact location.
2. Whether it moves from one place to the other.
3. Does it have a specific time when it comes like any relation to meals.
4. Does it increase and decrease in spurts or remains like a dull ache.
5. Any burning in urine?
6. Any fever or vomiting?

It could be a kidney stone but can only say once I can examine you. You could see your Doctor or a Surgeon and get an Ultrasound of Abdomen and KUB done to be sure.

Do let me know the report when its done and also let me know the answers to the above.

Take care and look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your fast reply
1-the pain is still there. Pictures attached of location
2-does not move but sometimes it pinches from the front under my ribs
3-no relation to meals
4- constant dull ache
5- very slight burning in urine, hardly noticable
6- no fever and no vomiting but there is loss of appatite and the feeling i want to vomit but i use mint gum to overcome that.
Other strange syptomes i got last 2 weeks are pain in the genitiles for a few days but that went away, sudden change in blood pressure and headache. Jet again i though it was just a cold and withrawal symptomes of quiting smoking for 1 week now. I will do the ultrasound tomorrow and send you the results.
I also stopped all sport supplements and vitamins i used to take. I thought they would have a negativr effect on my kidneys now. Right ?

Thank you again.

Brief Answer:
Could be a kidney stone. Ultrasound should be done

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Saw the pictures. First one is the renal angle or place of kidney pain. Second one is at the lower spine. The pain in genitals could point towards kidney issues along with the nausea. Ultrasound should be able to tell with certainty. Supplements should be stopped as you have rightly done.

Do let me know once you get the Ultrasound report. Will be able to advice further thereafter whether it is a kidney problem or not and the further course of management.

Take care.

Dear Dr.

I have added the ultrasound results you asked for. The doctor who made it said there is nothing wrong with my organs. Just some digestion problems.
If so, what was the reason of the genitile pain, the nausia, the itching, diarea , back pain and the pain does not go away with painkillers or creams.
Thank you f

Brief Answer:
Good report. Take probiotics & anti spasmodics.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It is good news that there is nothing wrong with your kidneys. It however shows some colonic swelling. It means your large intestine has had some problems. It could be that you are recovering from some large intestinal infection. That explains the pain in both areas, nausea and diarrhea.

However, genital pain is unlikely in colonic problems. Rest all is explainable. So do not worry. You should have some Probiotic drinks or capsules or powder for a month and take anti spasmodic medicines if the pain becomes severe. If there is fever along with diarrhea then we could add on a course of antibiotics but not required presently. You should be happy that your kidneys are alright and there is nothing majorly wrong.

Have a good recovery and let us know if we can be of any more assistance. Take care.
