What Causes Pain In Lower Right Abdominal Region?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: In early July 2014 I was pulling on a rope and experienced sharp pain all the way across the bottom of my abdomen. It felt like a strain.
The initial sharp pain subsided quite quickly and with rest the residual pain has also gone.
I now have occasional "dragging" pain in the lower right abdominal region which can be bought on by walking, exercise, carrying, lifting, pulling etc.
On examination (feel) I cannot feel any bulges or abnormalities.
Do you think that this pain will also resolve with rest?

Brief Answer:
Could be a muscle pull, a clinical exam and an ultrasound would confirm. Ice should help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in

Sudden sharp pain after pulling a rope - commonly due to muscle stretching leading to myalgia (inflammation and irritation of the muscle)

Also the occasional dragging pain bought on by walking, exercise, carrying, lifting, pulling, etc also point to muscular pain

The only concern is this won't last for four months

No bulge clinically will rule out a hernia, but a clinical examination and/or an ultrasound would confirm

I would suggest you try ice application and may be a muscle relaxant for three to five days. Such relaxants are prescription medications, so you could bring that idea up when you got the area examined.

If this does not work, further testing might be required. See a good doctor in your locality when you can.

Hope this helps
