Brief Answer: Colitis and Muscular spasm of back Detailed Answer: Hi. Your Medical History of Diabetes, Depression and Anxiety note. You have got a SHARP pain in Both lower sides and radiating to the lower back. The most probable reason I can think of is muscular spasm of the back. This can be secondary to the colitis which is giving you sharp pains in both lower sides. I would appreciate to know if you have any other associated symptoms. Please mention where exactly is the pain.

The pain was only in one side, now it's in both, right near your hips and it's a sharp pain if I move fast or pick something up. Then it radiates into lower back. I know I need to go to the Dr.'s but I take care of an elderly parent and can't be put in the hospital and I'm scared. I just started about 5 weeks ago taking Vyktosa shots and the pain got bad. At full dose, I really hurt and the Dr. cut it back as my sugar levels were running into the 60's. I feel better but I still hurt. What is colitis? Thank you, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer: Ibuprofen/ local ointments / rest / sound sleep Detailed Answer: Yes, the sharp pain on moving fast or picking up something is due to muscle spasm and does radiate to the back. I do understand the plight you must be going through due to elderly parents' care. Please continue on. It is good that your dose of injection has been cut back as the low levels of sugar can enhance / increase your problems. I thought of colitis as you had written as pain in both lower sides ( i though it must be lower abdomen) and colitis is inflammation / disease of the large bowel. This too mimics the symptoms you have mentioned. What are the medicines you are taking for the pain ? Are you applying anything locally to the skin to get a relief? If available and if suits you , please take tablet Ibuprofen 400 mg after food one at 8 hourly intervals. For muscle relaxation you can apply any rubrafacient (meaning that causes warmth and reduces pain by increased blood supply locally) liniment/ ointment. A good bed rest and sound relaxes the muscles and cuts off the pain-spasm- pain cycle. Please avoid any such movement which strains the muscles like working in a bending position, pulling or pushing something. Avoid constipation by a mild laxative if necessary. I hope all these measures will definitely help you to pull out of the situation. Please let me know if you have any further clarifications to help you more. Try to see a Doctor if possible.
