What Causes Pain In Neck And Shoulder?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: I have a neck to shoulder ache on my left side. It feels as if I slept wrong but there is a a throbbing sensation. I've put ice and heat on it also took an IBUPROFEN 800MG but to no avail. It feels like a toothache but in the neck to shoulder area. Does this sound like an emergency room visit?
To continue .... the neck pain is an ache that starts at the base of my neck, left side, down to the top portion or beginning part of the shoulder. Can't turn my head to far to the left. Still sore with a dull ache. Hopefully this will narrow it down even more. I took a second Ibuprofen which is a generic for Motrin 800 mg. Thank you for any help you can recommend.

Brief Answer:
Probably pinched nerve or muscle spasms.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Most probably your concerns are caused by pinched nerve or neck muscles spasm.
In both cases there is no extreme need for ER room visit.
In my opinion you should stop taking Ibuprofen and maybe you can use only one tablet of muscle relaxer.
If your symptoms persist after about one hour after muscle relaxer, you should contact your primary care Doctor and discuss your concerns.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
