What Causes Pain In Neck While Singing In High Pitch?
After I sing through it for a couple of seconds it seems to go away. If I don't sing for a couple minutes and try a high pitch again It will come back.
Is this muscle related or something more serious?
Following advice...
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
1. You are saying to have an annoying feeling when you start to sing a higher pitch. Usually, the most common cause is an upper respiratory tract infection. Have you had cold-like symptoms recently?
2. As per your description, you say to use your voice alot. Sometimes, the misuse of the voice will cause related problems.
I always recommend my patients to :
- avoid singing when they you get hoarse voice
- have more rest when getting cold especially if throat is involved
- drink plenty of water to keep hydrated avoid dryiness of the throat
- avoid alcohol or caffeinated drinks that would dry your throat
- eat healthy
- trying some simple breath control techniques can help overcome voice problems. It is recommended to support your voice with deep breaths from chest and not relying only on your throat.
- try to use a microphone or amplifier speaker especially when in front of an audience.
3. Another cause might be GERD or stomach issues. Get it further examined by your doctor and treated accordingly.
If after applying such advice, you'll still have problems with your voice, I recommend to consult with ENT specialist further.
All the best!

Your symptoms not typical for oral cancers,ENT exams to confirm it...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Please bare in mind that when a patient is coming in a clinic with certain symptoms as in your case, the very first thing we do is to exclude the most common causes as mentioned earlier.
As you have a personal history of smoking on and off and drinking occasionally, I still insist to stop smoking (even on-and-off) and drinking (even occasionally).
Conducting a non-healthy life including not eating healthy and smoking can be risk factors for cancer. However, in your case, the symptoms you are referring are not typical for throat cancer.
You can follow the advice as given above, and then, if no improvement, can go for ENT evaluations. Or, in case you are still concerned, can schedule an appointment with ENT specialist for further examinations.
Hope it answered to your query!
