What Causes Pain In Right Arm And Upper Chest Area Post An Injury?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Apr 2016
Question: Last Saturday I fell and hurt my right little finger (swollen and sore), scraped my right knee. I had a terrible time getting out of bed because of pains in my right arm and upper chest area. All other bruises are fine now, but I think I might have pulled something in my right upper are and upper chest area when I fell. It is better but still sore. I don't think I broke a rib because it's not all that painful. When I sneeze or cough is when I can feel it the most.

Brief Answer:
You may have rib fracture

Detailed Answer:
I have studied your case. I think you have fractured your ribs. It is common at your age and some time not visible on x rays. Your symptoms are highly suggestive of that. I would suggest you following.
1. There is no need to be panic as it is very common injury and it heals well without any bandage or plaster.
2. Avoid jerky or heavy activities or sleeping on that side.
3.Tablet Brufen 400 mg per day to twice duly for pain.
4.Volini gel and hot water fomentation.
5.Some time pain may be there up to 5 weeks.
You should also take calcium and vitamin D 3 regularly as this fracture suggest you have weak bones.I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks

Thank you for your help. I was an x-ray tech and I do understand that there really isn't much you can do. It's just nice to get a second opinion and some conservative treatment that I can do without taking a day off of work just to go to the doctor for somethin g she really can't do anything about. I do take Fosamax, calcium and vitamin D3. Once again, thank you for your help. It was greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Thanks for using health care magic

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using HCM. I hope above mentioned treatment will be helpful for you. It will be good if you stop Fosamax as it can delay fracture healing. You can continue with calcium and vitamin D 3. Fosamax should not be taken if there is bone injury.Wish you a fast recovery.
thanks
