What Causes Pain In Right Side Of Chest Radiating Towards Right Arm And Shoulder?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Jun 2015
Question: Hi. I fell asleep on the couch 8 a few hours and woke up with pain in the right side of my chest. It felt more like I'd swallowed an air bubble, but now there's a dull ache running down my right arm and dull pain in my tight shoulder (which feels like muscle tension). I work with some heavy equipment, so I don't know if that might be why my shoulder/arm feel like this. Are these signs of a heart attack?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to Health Care Magic, Thanks for writing to us,

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad, I have read your question, I understand your concern and will try to help you in the best possible way.

No these are not signs of heard attack. I will tell you how heart pain is.

Cardiac pains:

1- They are NEVER sharp excruciating pains, they are dull pains like soar muscles or a compression.

2- They start with work out and go away as you are at rest.

3- When its paining they in most case get relieved by a nitroglycerin tab under tongue.

4- Regular "work out cardiac pains" (angina) usually show up in stress testing.

5- They are very rarely present in men below 40.

6- They never Get worsened by food intake, they stay the same.

7- They don't change in intensity with breathing. Or changing body position.

8- They can not be pinpointed usually they are spread over an urea of chest.

9- Usually less than 30 mins in duration.

MY OPINION:

Your pain is muscular in nature, You probably kept sleeping at your right side so the muscles have got sore due to pressure and pressure on nerves and blood supply.

SUGGESTIONS:

1) Take a warm shower. This will loosen up your muscles.

2) Take tablet tylenol 500mg .

3) I would also suggest my patient to take a muscle relaxant if pain is
unbearable but if it's bearable then no need to bother for these prescription med.

4) Don't panic the pain will settle soon and everything will be fine :)

Have a great weekend
