What Causes Pain In Right-sided Upper Abdominal Area?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 May 2016
Question: I have been experiencing a dull but localized pain (or ache) in my upper abdominal area, right side. It's not so intense that I bend over in pain but it's there and more annoying than anything else. I suspect it has something to do with something I eat but it's hard to pin-point as I am having this pain almost every day. I am not necessarily waking up with it. I have recently had my liver enzymes checked and although slightly elevated, it does not appear to be an issue (no hepatitis...that's also been checked). Not sure where to go or what to consider at this point. Some suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Need more information and reports.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Your dull but localized pain over upper right side of abdomen seems to be due to skeletal muscle spasms here or might be related irritable bowel (since you said it has something to do with your eating) and very unlikely due to some hepato-billiary involvement as there is no hepatitis checked.

So I will keep these two possibilities first and will want to rule out chances (though unlikely) of hepato-billiary involvement by doing ultrasound of abdomen for a safer side.

As your doctor did ultrasound and CT scan as mentioned in your post, then please share those reports with me if possible.I will want to review them.

Also let me know if you have constipation or diarrhea or mucoid stools or any other symptom apart from this dull pain.

Muscle spasms could be relieved by over the counter pain killers and muscle relaxants.

Hope this helps and kindly get back to me with more information and your reports.

I will give my opinion after reviewing those reports and will tell you whether there is a need of any further evaluation or NOT.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra
