Well since you say its just pain and there is no swelling so the possibility of gout does not exist . What it appears is like metatarsalgia or osteoarthritic changes of the MTP joint . I would recommend you to take naproxen 500 mg twice daily for 5 days and see the response . Other thing is to wear shoes with adequate cushioning and possibly sports shoes with a wide front . Also try to avoid excessive standing or running that means any activity that puts pressure on the affected toe. Any other concerns feel free to ask.
