Hello, Thanks for coming to HealthCareMagic. I think your hunch is correct. You are describing radicular pain emanating from the L5-S1 nerve root on the left. That means that the nerve coming out of the spinal cord between the L5 and S1 vertebrae is being pinched.
May I ask what level was decompressed in 2010? Also, do have any issues which would be accelerating the natural degeneration of the vertebrae in the back (Osteoporosis etc)?
If this pain persists and becomes debilitating, you will probably need to get to your spine surgeon and get another MRI. I'm not saying that surgery is ABSOLUTELY necessary, but the imaging would need to be done to look at the area which is giving you trouble.
