What Causes Pain In The Hand While Sleeping?
Question: I'm having extreme pain in my right hand While sleeping only. It is radiating from the base of my thumb into my fingers and at times down my arm. Feels like hot stinging and sometimes hurts in the right hand as well. It also creates stiffness joint pain in the morning, and It wakes me up several times during the night and also provents me from being able to sleep at all.

Hello again. Nerve conduction measures the velocity the signal travels in the nerve. So it uses two electrodes which are placed superficially on the skin along the nerve trajectory. One of them sends a mild electrical impulse through the nerve and the other records it in order to determine velocity of conduction and amplitude by computer analysis. This way can be determined whether there is damage to the nerve segment between the two electrodes, type and degree of damage. Of course can be done for different nerves and different segments of the same nerve. For carpal tunnel syndrome it's pretty easy to perform.
