What Causes Pain In The Knee And Lower Back After Running?
Question: Hello,
I have been experiencing knee pain and lower back pain while/after running. The knee pain usually occurs after the run while the lower back pain occurs during the run.
I have been able to significantly reduce the knee pain by using a foam roller on my quads, IT band, hamstrings and glutes before going for a run. This leads me to believe that both knee and back pain are due to tight muscles and lack of hip flexibility.
What can I do to avoid the back pain? Also is there anything else I should be doing for the knees?
I am training for a 10K race and am currently running about 40 mins/6km.

Brief Answer:
Can be postural back pain.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The knee pain that you have can be due to mild capsular inflammation or due to reduced joint lubricants. The low back pain can be related to posture, wrong shoe type, excessive stress and strain, etc. This needs mild rest, mild pain killers and if necessary joint lubricant supplements. Back strengthening exercises will also help.
I hope this answers your query.
