What Causes Pain In The Region Of Ischial Tuberosity?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Aug 2015
Question: I had a total hip replacement fourteen years ago using a ceramic surfaced appliance. Recently I have experienced aching pain at the ischial tuberosity where muscles attach. Could this be a symptom of a failure of the appliance/surgery? I would hate to endure a redo.

Brief Answer:
Less likely to be due to appliance failure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The mild pain in the region of ischial tuberosity can be a muscular pain or due to osteoporosis. If it is a mild pain that can be well controlled with mild pain killers then it is not likely to be due to an appliance failure.
You can start with Tylenol double strength after meals and calcium supplements. Doing a hot compress in the area will also help.
In case the pain is gradually increasing then it is best to consult an orthoprdician for a physical examination and X-ray for proper diagnosis.
I hope this answers your query.
