What Causes Pain In The Ribs?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Aug 2017
Question: Hello. My son, who is 10, has had difficulty running the past 2 days due to pain under or around his left rib cage. He also experiences discomfort in that area when breathing in deeply or raising his arms above his head. He does not experience the pain when walking or breathing normally. He does seem to remember getting hit last week during a fencing camp in that region. However, he remembers that happening last Thursday and did not experience pain at that time and has since been normally active until last night when he attempted to run for soccer. I thought it might be hydration. But, when we went out tonight, he experienced the same pain and was forced to stop running again. This only seems be a problem when running. He actually attended fencing camp today without incident. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
only monitor the situation

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking in HCM.

I can understand your concern

According to the history you provide i don't think this is a serious situation.

If he was my patient i would recommend him to do an abdominal ultrasound to evaluate the organs in the upper abdomen.

If it is negative than nothing to worry about.
This pain is not related to allergies.

So discuss with his doctor for the above.

Take care and feel free to ask me again
