What Causes Pain In The Sole Of The Foot?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Dec 2016
Question: Hello I'm XXXXXXX

I have developed a mild pain in the bottom of my left foot. The pain is very slight, on a scale of 1-10 I would say it's a 1 or less. It is located between the 3rd and 4th toe (big toe being #1), not necessarily in the crook of the toes but slightly below that on the pad. I have researched what a Mortons neuroma is and it does not feel as though I am walking on a pebble, or marble.

It feels more like as if the nerve there is sort of being "plucked" like a guitar string. Although it does not continue to "strum" like a guitar would. This happens when I walk heel-to-toe and the foot is in the toe side down position, just as that pad rolls across the ground. I can also replicate the feeling when I place this foot in that position and move it side to side with moderate downward pressure on the area.

My job requires me to be on my feet 8-12 hours a day sometimes, plus the concrete truck I drive for work has a clutch. This is a very annoying feeling to deal with. Please help! Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Needs ultrasound and may require surgery to cure it

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Do get an ultrasound between the 3rd and 4th tors and also on the pad area, to look for a neuroma which can be easily detected.

You can take Tablet Pregabalin 75mg twice a day for the tingling and numbness or pulling sensation.

This can be operated to remove the neuroma once confirmed.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thank you for the quick reply! So what I gather is that this does in fact sound like a neuroma to you... The pain is like an ever so slight needle prick in that area of the foot. It is manageable for now, no need for drugs. It is my understanding that this came with 2 free follow up visits to a doctor? Am I understanding correctly? How do we get that set up so I can have it checked out?

Brief Answer:
Can be managed conservatively

Detailed Answer:
If you are able to manage the pain, then surgery may not be required. Do get an ultrasound anyways to confirm.
